DOGGY TOWN’S FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WITH ANSWERS AND INFORMATION

WHAT IS DOGGY TOWN ALL ABOUT?

Gypsey, my Scotty, needed a place to stay for a weekend and I couldn’t find a place that I felt excited about .  As you all know it will never be easy to leave your dog-child just anywhere .  With this a dream was born … a dream of no cement and small little houses with gardens and heaters in the winter and cute little beds with curtains and carpets just like at home.  I love dogs and always joked and said the day that I stop catering for people will be the day I am going to start catering for dogs.   It’s now more than two years later and the dream is a reality! My aim is to please as far as possible and I will look after your dog as if they were my own.  When I thought about and planned the first 5 houses I had the spoiled little lap dogs in mind who are accustomed to living indoors and who are respectful of furniture, bedding and décor...doggies that would enjoy a comfortable room and a grass area to play , run around and enjoy the indoors and outdoors.  I have plans for another 5 houses when the time is right and I am still thinking about larger houses with bigger gardens for the spoiled larger house dogs …or bigger family’s that can all stay together .… Big things start small ….

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY DOG GETS SICK ?

Some people don’t want to be notified unless it is really serious, and others want to know about every small detail. We will get your information on the Information sheet and act accordingly. If it is not possible to transport your dog to the vet, one will be called to Doggy Town.  The veterinary bill must be paid in full on the day of collection. The health and well-being of your pet is important and we will take it very seriously if someone gets sick.

As a pet owner, you will know that any animal can and will get sick from time to time, even in your own home, no matter how well he is looked after. Your vet may tell you that despite comprehensive vaccination programmes, there is no guarantee that your pet will not get a particular disease.  New strains and viruses pop up all the time . Being vaccinated on a regular basis however, reduces the risk and severity of attacks.

IF MY DOG HASN’T BEEN VACINATED UP TO DATE AND TREATED FOR TICS AND FLEAS 3 DAYS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL, CAN I STILL BRING MY PET TO STAY?

The well-being of the Doggy Town guests are very important to us and we believe so is the well-being of your pet to you ,  therefore we will not take in any unvaccinated dogs. We  can  apply  Frontline  R 80  on  request.   Please respect our policy.

HOW OFTEN ARE THEIR ROOMS CLEANED?

Their rooms are cleaned daily. Should it become necessary the blankets will be changed and washed .

CAN I BRING MY OWN FROZEN CHICKEN or ‘human food” AND EXPECT IT TO BE COOKED IN A CERTAIN WAY?

If you have special food you want me to serve, pre-cook, pre-portion and freeze the food if required and label it according to the days your dogs will be staying with us. You can give all the feeding detail on the Information Sheet.

HOW BIG ARE THE HOUSES AND GARDENS?

The house inside is 1.8 X 1.8 m with a 1 meter undercover veranda and a 7 x 3 meter grass area to play in.

CAN I BOOK MY DOG FOR A NICE BATH BEFORE PICK-UP?

YES, you can book a bath on the Information Sheet. I will schedule a date and time to spoil your dog with a nice refreshing bath. Professional Grooming can be booked on request with Christelle @ SharlomsYorkies in Rustenburg R175

CAN I BRING BONES FOR MY DOG ?

Please don’t send bones or chew’s . Your pet may choke on it, or carry the bone outside and burry it where another dog can get it.  It may be the other dog who chokes!

WHY DON’T YOU ACCOMMODATE AGGRESSIVE DOGS ?

Aggressive dogs must at all times be kept away and closed off from the other guests .  Mistakes can happen very quickly and I would rather run Doggy Town with a lower risk and be preventative, than deal with tragic and devastating results.  For me safety and happiness comes first!

IT IS MY DOGS FIRST TIME BOARDING AND I AM REALLY NERVOUS…..DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ?

Stay calm.  If you are anxious and unhappy, your pet will pick this up. The other dog boarders, who have already accepted the kennel as their territory, will kick up a row when they see your pet arrive.  This is the initiation ceremony. The barking dies down once the dogs get to know each other.  The next morning your pet will see that the sun rises as usual and there are interesting things going on at Doggy Town, and new smells to be investigated. Remember that they can express hunger, loneliness and happiness.
